The Swiss relay teams at the OL WM 2003

For the closing relay races at the OL WM 2003 Rapperswil/Jona the Swiss coaching staff with Niklaus Suter and Irène Müller has named the team members. The men will run in the following order: First David Schneider, then long-distance world champion Thomas Bührer and finally Marc Lauenstein. For the women Brigitte Wolf will run the first leg, followed by Vroni König-Salmi and the meanwhile threefold world champion Simone Luder.

Both relays have set the goal to reach a medal. Between 1991 and 1995 the Swiss men have captured gold at three consecutive world championships. Each time Thomas Bührer was part of the team.

The intended women’s team for the race on the Pfannenstiel (Forch ZH) is composed of the same athletes who together have won a World-Cup relay in Norway last year. Moreover at the European championships in Hungary and at the World-Cup final in the Check Republic they captured sliver together. Marie-Luce Romanens, who originally has been planned for the first leg of the women’s relay instead of Brigitte Wolf, dropped out because of a tendonitis showing up again during the long-distance final.
