Please note that the following concerns all area embargoes for WOC 2003: On March 1st, 2002, article 6 of the SOLV mapping rules has changed to article 7. Hence, the currently published version of the area embargoes replaces all earlier versions.

Definition of the Embargoes

Any potential members of an official WOC 2003 team: heads of delegation, athletes, coaches, medical staff:

All terrains (no. 11 - 63): According to the SOLV Competition Rules (article 49) and the IOF Competition Rules (article 26.5), it is not allowed to stay in any of the terrains. Exception: The passage through them is allowed on paved main roads.

Offenses shall be reported to the technical director of the organizing committee of the WOC 2003, Hansueli Steinmann, Im Freien 5, CH-8712 Stäfa, Switzerland.

All others:

Terrains no. 11, 61, 62, 63: The area is already restricted according to the SOLV mapping rules, article 7: Orienteering competitions and trainings are forbidden, mapping projects need a permission by the SOLV.

Terrains no. 12, 23, 24, 33, 34, 42, 51: New restricted area according to the SOLV mapping rules, article 7: Orienteering competitions and trainings are forbidden, mapping projects need a permission by the SOLV.

Terrains no. 21, 22, 25, 31, 32, 41: Trainings on club level, school courses and similar events are allowed on existing orienteering maps, but no official SOLV event or events published on the Internet are allowed. The organizer has to list the names of the participants and turn the list in to the technical director of the organizing committee of the OL WM 2003, Hansueli Steinmann.

These embargoed areas have been adopted by the board of directors of the SOLV at their meeting on August 28, 2000, and are valid immediately. They are going to stay embargoed until their official release by the SOLV.

Definition of the Embargo

All orienteers including potential members of an official WOC delegation:


Terrain no. 10
New restricted area according to the SOLV mapping rules, article 7: Orienteering competitions and orienteering training are forbidden, mapping projects need permission by the SOLV.

In contrary to all the other embargoed areas of the WOC 2003, orienteers are explicitly allowed to visit Rapperswil/Jona (no. 10) as tourists (say for sightseeing, visiting a restaurant, shopping, participating in other sports events, etc.).

This embargoed area has been adopted by the board of directors of the SOLV at their meeting on November 20, 2001, and is valid immediately. It is valid in addition to the earlier approved area embargoes dated Aug 28, 2000 (see above) and stays to be embargoed until its official release by the SOLV.
