Bern

The Federal Capital Berne invites visitors with the medieval Old Town, the arcades and fountains, as well as the nearby bear enclosure. Visitors of the river bath area "Marzili" feel that there is a connection between Berne and nature.

Both Toblerone chocolate and Ovomaltine are quality Bernese products.

Travel

Travel option A
With a train ride through the second longest Alpine tunnel (Lötschberg), Bern is reached in 90 minutes.

Stage 4: National O event in the city of Bern
The city Orienteering in the Federal Capital is a special experience. Owing to closed business (federal holiday) orientation is more difficult in the lanes and roads because of the high run speed.

Marzili river bath
on a hot summer day a cool bath in the river Aare is not to be missed. At the edge of the Old Town, the Marzili bathing area provides an unforgettable location to escape the hot summer sun.

Bernese Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site)
A two-hour stroll through the Old Town accompanied by a guide. Under the famous arcades through to the most beautiful places of interest (ex. the Parliament Buildings, cathedral, etc.) including a short visit to "Zytgloggeturm" (Clock tower with clockwork from the 16th Century).

Swiss Parliament Buildings
Guided tour of the seat of Swiss government (Upper House of Parliament) and the Parliament. The Parliament building was completed in 1902.

Individual
"Zytglogge tower"
First western gate of the city (1191-1256). It ranks among the most important objects of interest in Berne. The clock includes moving figurines, an astronomical clock and an hour chime (from the year 1530).

Cathedral (15th C./Late Gothic)
Largest Swiss Sacral. Construction began in 1421 and continued over generations. The tower was completed only in 1893. Climbing the 100 meter tower is possible with a rewarding view of the snowy mountains of the Bernese Alps

Bear Pits
Bern and bears are inseparably connected. Still today the bears in the Bärengraben and the bear in the Bernese Coat of Arms are reminds of the legend of the city founder Berchtold V., who killed the first animal - a bear.

Swiss Alpine Museum
(5 min. from the Old Town) This modern museum is the only one in Switzerland which offers an overview and an introduction to the cultural and natural highlights of the entire Swiss mountain area.
